Topics:
Luis Rodriguez has several
different presentations. Each can be geared to an age-range as well.
A poetry reading with
commentary.
A poetry and prose reading
(Always
Running) with commentary.
An inspirational talk
titled "Imagining Peace and Community in a Time of Violence
and Chaos" here is that description in his own words:"When
I talk about gangs and drugs, I start with my own experiences as
well those from people I've worked with over the years, including
organizations like Youth Struggling for Survival. I don't preach
"anti-gang," but by telling these stories and their results,
I hope to teach about choice, their own value as human beings, and
what to do in crisis. Drugs and gangs don't exist in a vacuum, but
a truly aware, attentive, cohesive and caring community is the best
way to deal with the rise of gangs and drugs."
An interactive workshop
titled "Expression and Empowerment in Troubled Times".
It is aimed at bringing out the voices, stories and sentiments of
the students. This workshop is best with 10-40 students.
Luis Rodriguez is an
excellent interview subject; in other words, conduct an onstage
interview with Luis as the guest.
In addition, Mr. Rodriguez
can be called upon to address specific subjects in his talks, such
as (but not limited to) writing, the immigrant experience, starting
and running a business for your community, grassroots community
action, and our penal system. |
